Happy new year! Happy new decade! Whatever your past might be, I pray that this year is full of God’s goodness for you.
If you’re anything like me, you’ve seen a lot of people talking about this past year, this past decade, and looking at everything that has changed. It can be consuming and entertaining to look at life’s unexpected twists, personal growth, and look at what time really does. I’m sure most of us have changed tremendously over the past ten years, and looking back this way also helps guide us towards the future. Maybe 2019 was particularly significant for you in one way or another, and you’ve spent time reflecting on what’s happened in just one year. Regardless, all of this talk about change led me to think about one thing – has anything stayed the same?
The simple answer: God. He never changes. He is the same always and forever, the same God we read of in Genesis is the same one that holds our future.
God is the driving force of creation, capable of making all things new again. He brings new life, but He remains the same.
Isaiah 43:19
“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
Romans 6:4
“We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”
Whatever you’re hoping for in 2020, whatever your prayers and hearts desire – remember that God is in control. His will for this next year will be the best dream you can pursue.
Whatever the past held, and whatever the future holds: God is still good. God is still love.
Invite Him into your plans for 2020 and you’ll see that life really can become new.
